Beneath the frozen soil

Alas, Poor Potato

Cosy and snug under the soil,
then ripped up to be chopped up, chipped up or boiled.
Bake in his jacket, or peel off his flesh,
beat to a pulp and make in to mash.
Chunky chips or skinny fries,
don't forget to gouge out those eyes!
Maybe, viciously toss in to hot oil and fry.
Did you ever meet a vegetable with so many ways to die?
